Perfect Memories
Dad used to visit often from his home in the UK and he would stay as long as he could. He used to say that after the hustle and bustle of the UK , Canada was so refreshing , he got his energy back when he was here . He loved it here and Grey County especially, He loved Meaford , saying there was always something to do . He traveled here every year for a long time and then we bought the farm ... born in 1924 he was drawn and tired that last summer here, but filled it ... we hiked all over our 100 acres , he helped with the sheep and walking to the back woodlot was thrilled to find a family of baby racoons spread along a tree branch, he cut the grass and helped collect apples , but best of all watched the Skies light up with greens red and blues as we lay on our backs in the meadow watching the Aroura Borealis flash across the fall sky. It was a lifelong wish .
After he went back home his health failed and the following year couldnt make the trip. He spent his last years telling everyone that would listen what a wonderful place we live in , and he was right .
Dad died Easter 2009 , suddenly on his own , It was really tough and sometimes still is, BUT I only have to let my mind wander and Im back in the summer of 2005 and he is there with me strolling through town , marvelling at how friendly we all are , how beautiful the Bay is ,Things lots of us take for granted as we hurry on with our lives . Its a perfect Memory for me in this perfect Place...... Grey County.
